When Oscar nominated actor-turned-rapper-turned-hobo Joaquin Phoenix stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman on Feb. 11, America got a firsthand glimpse of the la-la land where Phoenix evidently now resides. Where to begin — his lumberjack beard? His unwashed mane? The creepy, unnecessary shades? Or the catatonic, mumbling responses to admittedly ridiculous questions like, "How's that beard working out for ya?"After several failed attempts to jolt Phoenix out of his stupor, Letterman finally resorts to biting sarcasm: "What can you tell us about your days with the Unabomber?" For their part, the crowd loved it. Phoenix, not so much. ("Are you f--ing serious?" he asks after Letterman sidekick Paul Shaffer lets out a "maniacal" laugh). Bidding his oddball guest adieu, Letterman quips, "And, uh, Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here tonight," before adding, "We owe an apology to Farrah Fawcett."

The Story behind the painting.
If you have watched some of my other videos you have noticed I sometimes use common objects in an artistic way. I do this because many types of art are far removed from the average person. Creating art with things people come in contact with in their daily lives closes that gap.
So the idea for this piece came from...what else...eating cheetos. My fingers turned orange and I noticed it created an accidental mark on my clothes. From there my thoughts went to fabric as a surface....poof...it made me think of velvet paintings. The Virgin of Guadalupe, Unicorns, and probably the most famous incarnation of velvet painting. The Velvet Elvis. It's kitsch. It's cheesy. Thus a Velvet Elvis painted with cheese puffs.

Asher Roth: “I Love College”
“I Love College” previews from Asleep in the Bread Aisle, 23-year-old Pennsylvanian Asher Roth’s debut album, out via Universal this April, and it seems an odd choice for a first single. The track completely skirts all the rap cred Roth has managed to accrue (Steve Rifkind signed him, DJ Drama co-hosted his mix tape, XXL put him on its “Class of ‘09” cover) in favor of blatant radio pandering. But then again, so did Eminem with “My Name Is,” and look how that white rapper turned out. The rhymes may be featherweight (“nothing wrong with some fun / even if we did get a little bit too drunk”), but there’ll be plenty of time to flex lyrical muscle. In the video, watch for a cameo from the Cool Kids!

he demonstration called for by the family members of Mafia victims has been moved from Piazza della Repubblica to Piazza Farnese in Roma but will still be held on 28 January. I am told that the move is due to the Maroni Clause, inspired by Clause 22 by Joseph Heller.
Clause 22:
- article 12, Clause 1: The only valid reason for requesting leave from the front is insanity
- article 12, Clause 22: Anyone requesting leave from the front is not insane
In other words, if you are insane you can leave the front, but if you want to leave the front then you are not insane.
The Maroni Clause:
- The Italian Constitution, article 17: Citizens shall have the right to gather peacefully without carrying arms...The authorities must be notified about any gatherings to be held in public places and said authorities may only forbid such gatherings for proven reasons of security or public safety
- Maroni Clause, sole article: Demonstrations prohibited in front of places of worship.
In Italy, all main squares have a church. Citizens shall be free to demonstrate in any main square, as envisaged in the Constitution, but not in any main square with a church.
Therefore, for example, the Vday demonstration in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna and in Piazza San Carlo in Turin would not have been authorised.
The Maroni Clause is unconstitutional, and you don’t have to be a constitutional expert to understand this fact, it is enough for one not to be Maroni.
Islamic mass prayers in protest against the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza lie at the root of the Maroni Clause. Harbouring bed thoughts is a sin, but in Italy it is a good thing. I want to have extremely bad thoughts. The objective is not the Muslims, but rather the Italians that want to hold a demonstration. First they filled up the media with the regime’s bullshit, and now they want to make the squares off-limits.
All I know is that I will be in Piazza Farnese on the 28th January 2009 at 09h00, in order to demonstrate my solidarity with the families of mafia victims and the Public Prosecutor of Salerno, Apicella, as well as Luigi De Magistris and Clementina Forleo. Spread the word.
Ps: in the interests of safety, I will get myself a pair of thick shin pads so as to avoid being bitten by Maroni.
